I saw 125th street one night
From the steel balcony;
When the curtain on its metal
Grooves slid:
How the boards groaned
Under the weightless fans and sprays
Of ever-modelling light
That held so restless spectacular an evening cast.

Depending on the cat
Is angular
And interior
To the day to the slant of light in the hall.
As a comma to a thought
Her tail is apt.

Am I sovereign of myself
And everything there is;
In an instant common as death,
Is a pauselessness held still.

The interior to the outside of a day
Is larger than its bright delineated horizons,
Holding the motions of such things
As suns or sadness
That make a smallness of such things
As the encompassing sky
Or human interaction.
